There can be many reasons acute wound care is necessary. Diabetes, trauma, infections, autoimmune diseases, exposure to certain medications, tumors or inherited disorders are just a few. Problems arise when the results are loss of sensation and /or circulation in the lower extremity. Decreased circulation leads to wound formation and slow healing and loss of sensation can delay detection. Ulcer formation on the feet can have serious consequences if not treated immediately. There are warning signs that can predict problems. Pain and tingling, cool skin temperatures, callus formation, and changes in the anatomy of the foot are a few indicators of potential issues. Diabetic Neuropathy is probably the number one reason we fabricate and fit acute wound care shoes.
The shoe above is shown together and with the honeycomb insole and toe piece removed. The honeycomb pieces are held in place with Velcro and can be removed and replaced as the condition improves or changes. If used complete, the insole is very soft and will compress around prominent areas.
The shoe below allows specific areas of unloading by modifying the white, blue and orange insole and then placing the pink insole on top. Material can be cut from the bottom insoles, reducing pressure areas. Each of the 3 colors is a different density. The pink surface allows for smooth transition from areas of loading and unloading. If necessary, both shoes can accept a custom made orthotic fabricated from a mold of the foot. Working with your physician, we will create the device necessary aid in the healing of your foot. Once healed, we can provide custom footwear to help prevent a reoccurrence.
